Louis Poulsen PH 5/5 Pendant
Louis Poulsen PH 5/5 Pendant
The PH 5/5 pendant, designed by Poul Henningsen, stands as a quintessential example of his three-shade system developed in 1926, aimed at providing unparalleled lighting quality for a myriad of needs. This 'whole' sized pendant is known for its harmonious design, with a top shade diameter of approximately 50 cm, meticulously aligned with the middle and lower shades in a proportional relationship of 3:2:1. Such design intricacies ensure the PH 5/5 pendant delivers glare-free lighting, making it a perfect fit for high placements within a room to create both excellent lighting conditions and a cozy atmosphere.
Unlike the 'hybrid' models designed for lower hanging positions, such as over tables, the PH 5/5’s 'whole' size configuration exudes a compact yet profound aesthetic, synonymous with Henningsen's design ethos. This design philosophy extends beyond just the physical form of the light, incorporating strategic choices in materials and finishes to manage glare and shadow, thereby enhancing the quality of light. In 1929, the introduction of materials like copper and opal glass in the design of the three-shade system further refined the lighting output, ensuring the highest quality of light.
Today, the PH 5/5 pendant remains a celebrated piece for its ability to elevate both residential and commercial interiors with its elegant, modern Danish classic design. Its substantial size and sophisticated light distribution make it an ideal choice for enhancing large rooms at home or transforming high-ceilinged commercial spaces such as flagship stores, meeting rooms, restaurants, hotel rooms, and lobbies. The PH 5/5 pendant is a testament to Poul Henningsen’s enduring legacy, offering a special ray of light that brings sophistication and warmth to any space.
